US lawmaker injects ISP throttle into Obama rescue package

US Senator Dianne Feinstein hopes to update President Barack Obama's $838bn economic stimulus package so that American ISPs can deter child pornography, copyright infringement, and other unlawful activity by way of "reasonable network management."

Coming to an ISP near you, data caps. Time Warner has already instituted this practice and now Charter Communications will follow suite.

Comcast did a while ago too.

For all it's worth, I don't think WOW plans to do anything like that. But my friend called me the other day, and he said he got a notice on his browser saying that he's been using unauthorized file-sharing and it was an official warning.

So I dunno.
