Cnet has done a full review of the Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player, and they reckon it is the best Blu-ray player they've seen so far.
From the nice little touches like the player being wrapped in a soft cloth bag, to the rare sight of a bundled HDMI cable, Cnet just simply fell in love with the player that supports pretty much all Blu-ray has to offer, plus both DVD-Audio and SACD, superior DVD upscaling, on-board TrueHD, DTS HDMA decoding, 7.1 analogue outputs and much more.
Cnet didn't like the fact that Wi-Fi was not included and that high costs means that you can get the same Blu-ray playback quality on bigger brands (albeit without the same level of DVD upscaling), and there's no media streaming service support.
I've posted this link before, but there are region-free firmware for the player available here:
The problem with region-free firmware is that because Oppo updates their firmware quite regularly, the cracking efforts have to keep up or you end up using outdated firmware.
