After teasing us with a beta of Flash 10.1 several months ago, Adobe has released another beta version of Flash 10.1 (Beta 3).
Flash 10.1 promises GPU assisted decoding for H.264 Flash content for a wide range of graphics chips, including most offerings from Nvidia, the ATI Radeon HD range (desktop/mobile 4xxx or above), and selected Broadcom and Intel chipsets (see release notes for a full list of supported devices). GPU assisted decoding would allow playback of 720p and 1080p H.264 Flash content without the need for a powerful CPU, and this allows lower power Netbook and CULV laptops to play these movies without taxing the CPU too much. YouTube recently launched a 1080p playback mode for selected videos.
