Nintendo's new 3D DS console, the 3DS, will feature new anti-piracy features when it is released worldwide in February and March of next year.
The anti-piracy feature comes via automatic updates to the system software, which will be made in the background without user intervention.
The SpotPass system, which updates player rankings and certain notifications while the 3DS console is not being used, is believed to be key to implementing this stealth auto-update system.
It is unknown at present whether users can change a setting to prevent these auto-updates, although users should be able to take the 3DS "offline" by disabling Wi-Fi and thus disabling the auto-update system in the process.
