Facebook has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to deliver digital movie rentals to Facebook users.
'The Dark Knight' will be the first movie to be made available as part of the Facebook/WB rental trial, and users who like the page for Chris Nolan's Batman epic will get the choice of renting the movie for $3, or 30 Facebook credits.
Users who rent the movie will then have 48 hours to watch the movie, which can be paused, rewound, resumed at will during the period, and it would also not affect existing Facebook functionalities.
"Facebook has become a daily destination for hundreds of millions of people. Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts. It gives consumers a simple, convenient way to access and enjoy our films through the world's largest social network," said Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.
Other details, such as the list of available movies that Warner plans to release on Facebook in the coming month, is still unknown, but it appears that there's a new way now to distribute movies online.
