PlayStation Chief: 3DS Is For Kids, Xbox 360 Running Out Of Steam

Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, is making the headlines again by attacking rival gaming systems for being not as technical advanced as Sony's products.

Tretton attacked the Wii for lacking a hard-drive, and called motion gaming "cute", and attacked the limited nature of Wii's motion controls. "... if I can only wave my arms six inches, how does this really feel like I'm doing true accurate motion gaming?" Tretton explained.

Bringing the Xbox 360 into his sights, Tretton said both the Wii and the Xbox 360 are "starting to run out of steam", while the PS3 is "just hitting its stride" 4 years after launch. Tretton here alludes to the PS3's superior hardware, including a Blu-ray drive, that allows games requiring more storage to be stored on a single disc, as opposed to multiple DVDs.

And even Nintendo's latest "baby", the 3DS, was not immune to Tretton's attacks. He says of the entire DS family that "no self-respecting twenty-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those" that the handheld console platform which has outsold Sony's own PSP by more than twice as much, is "something young kids do on airplanes".

He then went on to promote Sony's upcoming "PSP2", the NGP, which he says will have "every [bell and] whistle", presumably for all the self-respecting twenty-something's to drool at. And like the PS3 when it first launched, the NGP is likely to have a higher price point when it is launched later in the year, and/or a higher loss figure per console sold than the 3DS.

The 3DS was launched last month and instantly became Nintendo's fastest selling console of all time.

I'm now 20 and I play my DS

Honestly I think the PS3 is the least "good" of all 3 current-gen gaming consoles, and this is coming from someone who owns all 3. I don't even own more than 2 PS3 games and I use it exclusively as a media center... I disconnected it from the Internet since I like having my firmware with Linux on it and don't want Sony forcibly-upgrading me.
