I'm running Windows 7 32 bit build 7077 on an HP m8000n pavilion with AMD dual core and TSSTCorp dvd writer.
The HD LED ticks once per second 24 hours a day seven days a week. I found several similar issues via google and the solution on XP was to set AutoPlay to 0 in the registry since it was something to do with polling the CDROM drive for auto insert notificaton.
Well, I have AutoPlay set to 0 but it does it anyway. If I disable the CDROM drive in device manager, the ticking goes away. If I enabled the CDROM the ticking comes right back.
I really don't want to put black tape over the LED or pull the wire as some have suggested. I just want it to stop ticking!! Has anyone solved this on Windows7?
