Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT), an organization linked to the MPAA, wants the New Zealand government to "streamline" the ability for copyright holders to disconnect users from the Internet due to copyright theft.
It says while it does not have a problem with having a judicial process (I thought having one was not an optional, but rather, the minimum requirement), as long as it is streamlined, which in my opinion is just another way of saying that they want to remove aspects of due process that allows the accused to prove their innocence.
The NZ government is currently hesitant in introducing such a system.
The Creative Freedom Foundation is against any such legislation, saying it lacks due process and innocent people might get punished as a result. It is asking for independent experts, rather than people employed by copyright holders, to decide whether infringement has occurred.
