China Blue HD, CBHD, is China's answer to Blu-ray. Blu-ray licensing is expensive, and as such, China prefers its own royalty free format (or at least, a format with less royalty fees). CBHD is based on HD DVD technology, which Toshiba abandoned after it lost the HD format war to Blu-ray. Several Hollywood studios, such as Warner Bros., supports both Blu-ray and CBHD.
CBHD has always been just a Chinese format for the Chinese market, but one European importer plans to bring CBHD, with its HD quality movies at low low prices, to Europe. The movies are in English, including the menus and displays.
For £ 259, or $US 410, you can buy a CBHD player that comes with a dozen free movies including The Aviator,' 'Blood Diamond,' 'The Island' and 'Poseidon.'
