    WHDI Wireless HD Video Standard Becomes Official

    The specifications for WHDI, based on Wi-Fi technology, has become official. WHDI uses the 5 GHz band, will allow up to 1080p 60 Hz video transmissions up to 100 feet away, aiming to replace HDMI cabling in the home theater of the future. 12-bit video color depth is supported, and HDCP 2.0 will also be part of the specifications.

    WHDI is one of many wireless HD video standards that are emerging, however, it has the backing of some of the biggest names including Sharp and Sony, and the WHDI consortium also includes LG, Hitachi, Motorola and Samsung.
