New Malware Takes Advantage of UK Anti-Piracy Bill

A new malware now demands UK users to pay a $400 pre-trial settlement, taking advantage of the new anti-piracy laws being passed in the UK that could see users banned for allegedly or attempting to download pirated content.

F-Secure is warning users to be careful and not fall prey to the scam. The malware even pretends to be legitimate by linking to the website of a law firm, ACS:Law, that has been actively demanding pre-trial settlements from UK users. ACS:Law recently came under investigation for their anti-piracy related activities.

With the copyright law now removing important parts of due process and heavily favouring copyright holders and those that monitor the net for potential pre-trial settlements, these kinds of scams will surely increase in popularity.
