Gaming News Roundup: PS3 Profitable, 3D for Xbox 360 and Project Natal in October?

A couple of gaming related news stories which I shall post about in this one thread.

First of all, Sony announced that they have finally stopped losing money on each and every PS3 sold, which should allow their gaming division to finally make a profit. It is thought the PS3 Slim has been responsible for the cost reduction, which has allowed a price cut and has subsequently improved sales. A new sub-version of the PS3 Slim is said to be released soon, with further manufacturing cost reductions.

The PS3 is getting 3D (for gaming) in June thanks to a firmware update, but the Xbox 360 will also support 3D gaming if a new partnership between Microsoft and LG in South Korea is any indication. No specific details about how 3D will work on the Xbox 360, whether it will be a firmware update like for the PS3, or a new hardware version of the console, has been revealed, although earlier stories suggest only the HDMI equipped Xbox 360 consoles are capable of 3D. More details are expected at E3.

Speaking of E3 and Microsoft, the Xbox 360 Project Natal full body motion gaming system will be unveiled there as well, with a release date expected to be October 2010. This comes after a Microsoft rep pretty much said so on Saudi TV, although Microsoft US has since not claimed to have set any firm release date other than "Holidays 2010".
