EA Wants To Ban Sale of Second Hand Games

Electronic Arts say that sales of second hand games are even worse than piracy.

When second hand games are sold, only the retailer/seller receives compensation, while the game publisher, like EA, do not. And for every buyer of second hand games, it means one less buyer of a new copy of the game, and that hurts publishers EA as well.

EA recently came up with a plan to charge money for online play of second hand games. Another solution proposed by EA is to sell digital copies only, and ensure the digital copies cannot be resold.

Of course, EA can solve both the piracy problem and the second hand trade problem by making games affordable enough to make buying second hand copies (and to a lesser extent, pirating them) less economically sound.
