Toshiba has released two TVs that can produce a 3D image without the need for the viewer to wear glasses. Using similar technology to Nintendo's upcoming 3DS console, these TV improve things by allowing more "sweet spots" from which the 3D image is visible.
However, this process requires a special filter to be placed in front of TV, blocking out half the image for each eye to create the 3D effect. And as a result, even with increased resolution panels, the perceived resolution of the TV is reduced (as each eye is getting only half of the picture at any time). It's also the reason why these TVs come only in small sizes, a 12" version and a 20" version.
The 12" version retails for $1500 while the 20" version retails for $2900.
