Ubisoft Stops Making 'Mature' Wii U Titles

In a blow for Wii U gamers, Ubisoft Chairman Yves Guillemot has announced that the game publisher giant will no longer release Wii U games intended for "mature" audiences, instead focusing on family friendly titles such as the Just Dance series.

Speaking to Game Informer, Guillemot revealed that Wii U sales only accounted for three percent of the company's total game sales, behind the 9% enjoyed by the PS4, and the 6% enjoyed by the Xbox One, both consoles having been released for only half of the reporting fiscal period.

And out of these sales, Guillemot says a clear pattern has emerged and explains why the company will no longer release games from series like Far Cry and Ghost Recon on the Wii U.

"It's very simple," he said. "What we see is that Nintendo customers don't buy Assassin's Creed. Last year, we sold in very small numbers. What we see is that they are very interested in Just Dance, very interested by other kinds of games. So what we are trying to do is to focus more on the types of games they are interested in."

The only exception will be Watch Dogs, which will still be released on the Wii U.

In further bad news for the Wii U, rival game publisher Capcom has revealed that while the other next-gen consoles will be getting a new Street Fighter game, there are currently no plans for a Wii U version of the game.

"I apologize that we don't have plans for Wii U," wrote Capcom's Yoshinori Ono on Twitter.
