Nielsen has released the results of a survey that shows people choose different games consoles for very different reasons.
The study showed that PS4 buyers were most concerned about graphics, while Xbox One buyers made the choice largely on the Xbox brand. Wii U buyers, on the other hand, are more into the "fun-factor" of the console and are more be price conscious.
For PS4 buyers, most said that the console's "better resolution" support for games was the key deciding factor for them, while using the console as a Blu-ray player also ranked high on the list of reasons to buy the console.
For Xbox One owners, apart from the strong Xbox brand, particularly in North America, users were most attracted to the console's "innovative features" and perceived "faster processing power" (which was also one of the top reasons people chose the PS4, over the other consoles).
For Wii U owners however, their list of reasons differ slightly, with the console's "fun-factor" being the most important reason. That the Wii U is perceived to be "better for kids", and that in their opinion, it offers the best price/value proposition.
The study, which surveyed 4,400 respondents, also found that an overwhelming number of current-gen console owners also owned previous generation consoles, including the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. The results show that most of the PS4's gains have come at the expense of Xbox owners, with 59% of PS4 owners saying they previously owned an Xbox 360 (compared to only 43% of Xbox One owners that owned a PS3 - 72% of both console owners owned a Wii). One in 3 PS4 owners surveyed did not even own a PS3.
For the Wii U, 86% of owners were owners of the Wii, showing Nintendo fans are as loyal as ever.
