Yes it plays my old DVD's. It was between this and the LG. The LG had some better features, but Picture quality is important to me. Too bad about the resume function though. If a $130 Mintek can have it, a $230 Samsung should. Hopefully the battery lasts as long as it should.

drf: Is your battery Li-ion? I'm just curious how they got more battery life.

I am not sure. I use the one that came with the player, so check on the page (www.samsung.com) to see.

It doesn't say on the website, but it should say on the battery. Not a big deal if you can't find it.

        Thanks.

I think I found a work around for the recall problem. If you press stop (once) and close the screen, the disc will stop spinning after about a minute. The red LED will remain lit. Afterwards, you can open the screen and hit play. Unfortunately, because the LED stays on, I'm not sure how long you can keep it in this state before the battery runs out. However, if you're plugged in, you should be able to use this trick indefinitely.

Do the bookmarks get erased when powering off?

The stop trick works on mine too - as well as my Panasonic not-portable players.
