Problem getting high resolution video into my computer

I am trying to transfer home videos, VCR tapes, etc. to DVD.
I am using a Haupauge WinTV card. I have tried using VirutalDub, Virtual VCR, and Nerovission Express and Snapstream Beyond TV to capture the video input to AVI or MPEG.

All the programs work fine, but i am not getting the video quality i would expect. The 1st 3 programs will only encode at 352 x 240 resolution. Snapstream will encode at higher resolution (720 x 480 I think?) but it doens't do motion real well. (Things get a bit "Bitmappy")

Several of the programs warn that it might not be possible to get to a higher resolution with this inpute card, but they do not go into details.

Does anyone have any advice? Is this card capable of higher resolution, or is it a limitation with the card? If so, can anyone recomeend a card that will do 640 x 480?

    Thanks for your help,
