    What and why's of size

When I encode, primarily using the DivX codec 5.x, default output where screen size/resolution is concerned is never correct. The movie views (size-wise) totally different than the original, and actually wrong.

Like when I watch a movie with WinDVD or PowerDVD the screens default for many movies (dvd widescreen) is 852x640 pixel-wise and unless I set to this size when changing the vob's to AVI or DivX, the aspect ratio of the finished file is never the same and NOT correct.

Yes, I'd like the output for both playing on my pc (most of the time) and also for using on a television (with a dvd player).

Am I wrong. All I want is to simply have a WYSIWYG copy with the benefits of the smaller compression/size the DivX codec brings to the table.

Reading every file for programs I use and MANY that I don't does not answer this confusing aspect of copying.

What is right and correct settings?

    Thaks,
    Keith
