    xp video compression options gone!

After i formatted my hdd, reinstalled winxp and reinstalled the video codecs the compression options did not reappear for encoding.

Playback is fine for any vid divx xvid whatever, but when I need to encode using an app e.g Vdub or Adobe, the video compression options that I installed "don't appear!"
Only the the cinepack, intel, indeo, microsoft(not m$ mpeg-4) crud that is always there is availible.

The video codecs that are supposed to be installed appear in device manager.....irritatingly.

I've tried installing the singular or pack installations of the various video codecs eg xvid/divx/tsunami/nimo.
(also reinstalled windows a second time [no format and same dir])
    But still no encoding options.

Anyone know what the heck is up with this!??
