progressive and interlaced in one movie

I used mpeg2avi to convert my video to DivX at 23.976fps to avoid interlacing problems. It came out fine, but two minutes too long and causing audio synch problems. After I opened it up in FlaskMpeg, I realized that the video alternates between progressive and interlaced. The only interlaced section is in the middle of the movie and is from 10-20 minutes long. This is the only section where the video is stretched. AV synchs fine for the first part of the movie, and if I delay the audio by about 2 minutes, it synchs with the rest of the film. When I try using Flask on this section, the video is not smooth, but seems to be within the proper time.

Now, does anyone know what the best settings are for these type of movies? When I uncheck reconstruct progressive..., it seems to be somewhat smoother there. Should I be using 29.976? If I do, will the video come out too short since 23.976 seems to work with audio synch on the rest of the film.
Working...
