I have Audigy 2 with Creative Inspire T7700 speaker system. Windows XP speaker config set to 5.1 and T7700 upmix from 5.1 -> 7.1. I'm using the analog connectors.
Now I got bsplayer to work with ac3. Mainly you need to set spekaer config at 5.1 speakers. Then upmix at amp from 5.1-7.1. Enable the ac3 hardware decoder on the soundcard + extras, (not spdif). Then install the codecs needed, in my case nimo did the trick. I also think some via drivers for the motherboard were a bit crap so I updated them.
Now I can listen to 5.1 surround sound without problems.
I couldn't get the ac3filter working with bsplayer but it still works fine using whatever codec it uses =).
