MyDVD Problems

I spent $70 upgrading the MyDVD disk that came with my Pioneer A03, only to find that the chapters I create cannot play in sequence by themselves! After each chapter plays it goes back to the menu. Thats insane! I've yet to find a solution. I wouldn't even mind the fact that each chapter looses the last five seconds of audio.

I have a p4 with half a meg of onboard memory and a Pioneer A03 burner. Can I make DVDs from my old video tapes or what?!?!
