OK, I was burned again! I purchased some Meritline brand true 2x dvd-r. The stuff is cheap, but unreliable. It burns fine and will play OK on 2 out of 3 of my DVD players, but will not play on x-box or playstation. The build quality is rather shotty as well. The edges of the media or not uniform and the adhesive is substandard. The Meritlines are going back!
Using Pioneer DVR-104:
I'm done experimenting with different medias and trying to find a better deal. Ritek is the only media I will ever buy again. The only reason that I tried Meritline was because the cost of the Riteks went up. I have never had a problem with Ritek so I'm sticking with them for good. I used a Gradius hack that reverted my firmware version from 1.40 back to 1.31 and now the Ritek 1x burn at 2x with no problems. Last night I ripped and burned 3 dvds at 2x onto Riteks using the firmware v1.31, and all 3 played perfect, even in the x-box and playstation.
