Need Help With My New Pioneer-117 DVD

Hi all! Yesterday i bought a brand-new Pioneer 117 DVD-ROM. After I connected it to my system and started my computer, I realised that it reads BOTH DVDs AND CDs as Audio Cds. Also, it reads the Audio Cds as audio cds but when you ask to playback them it stops reading them....The drive is identified by both CMOS Setup and Windows 98 (although windows recognize it as CD-ROM Drive). DOES ANYONE PLEASE KNOW HOW CAN I SOLVE THE PROBLEM?
