VGA - Grainy

I have a Radeon 8500 with both VGA and S-Video outputs. When connecting the VGA to my plasma screen, the DVDs played back come out somewhat grainy. Is there any way to achieve the same quality playback as a standalone DVD player from my PC with this setup?
