playback problems on samsung-d612 sso4

Hello

I am having problems with 2 dvd's on my samsung-d612s sso4 drive.

They are both dual layer dvd's

I am using windows xp, 256mb ram and powerdvd version 3 patched for windows xp.

Geforce 256 ultra, latest nvidia driver.

The films is question :

Saving private Ryan (dreamworks)

Antitrust (mgm)

All other films work fine.

I have checked these dvd's on a hardware dvd player (ps2), and they work fine.

The symptoms :

approx 40-50% through the film, the sound becomes choppy and the film slows down to almost a stop (playing about 1 - 2 frames at a time),

Then the film freezes after 1 minute of doing this, and the dvd rom drive spins like crazy.

after approx 1 minute of this, the film either stops, or I have to do a ctril-alt-del as the program has stopped responding.

I have made sure dma is enabled, closed down all background programs, have set sound to min settings in powerdvd.

This is driving me crazy, as I do not know if it is the drive,operating system,dvd software or just me.

Can anyone suggest anything??
