Choppy DVD Playback on HP Pavilion Laptop

    Hi guys.
My mom’s laptop, HP Pavilion dv5215us Entertainment Notebook PC…
(Here let me paste some of the the specs from an online store):
    • Notebook PC with 15.4-inch screen and 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-34 (1 MB L2 cache)
    • 80 GB hard drive, 1 GB of RAM (2 GB max), multi-format DVD/CD burner with dual-layer support
    • Windows XP Home edition (SP2)
    <o></o>
-began to play DVD’s with extreme choppiness, regardless of the DVD type (original, backup, sl dl +-R, etc), or video player (WMP, BSplay, Nero Showtime, etc)
Something similar has happened a while ago after installing Ahead Nero 7, but one of HP’s tech guys instructed me to remove conflicting IDE controller that Nero had put in and things were all better. Now I’m having the same (or similar) problem again, and I don’t know what to do. (And my warranty has expired).
I have tried lens cleaning, removing 3rd party codec packs, checking IDE controllers in Device Manager (everything seems fine there).
The pleasantly interesting thing is that it still burns DVDs just fine, so it’s hard to say that the choppy playback is the symptom of a dying drive.
    I’m puzzled. Please help.
Also, if it may help to know, during playback, memory usage of the player is below 90%.
Thank you very much for any help.<o></o>
