I transferred tivo to pc, then burned to DVD but didn't work. please help...

i transferred some tivo programs to pc, then burned one to DVD but it didn't work. i was told i could record directly from tivo to a standalone recorder, but i have already deleted the programs from tivo. so i need to know how to get them off my pc onto DVD or i will lose them. is there a program that will convert the .tivo extension so i can burn them to DVD and they will play in any DVD player?
in the future, what is the best way to burn tivo programs to DVD? thank you for your answers and time...
