Newbie needs help with 2 probs.......

Goodday y'all nice place ya got here...

prob 1.

I just managed to snag the seventh seal by Bergman, an old b/w film from the 50's, now this vcd comes with subtitles......a srt file to be precise....
Normally i burn vcd's with Nero..question is how do I include the subs so it burns neatly together so I can play it on my standalone dvd player later.

prob. 2 this is off course total newbie stuff.......so start laughing now heh heh.....

I have two avi files from the pledge (great film by Sean Penn w. J. Nicholson) now I wanna turn them into svcd's..........
I would like to use TMPGEnc. for that however I just get no sound.......I played with the settings a bit and I assume it is a rip of a American DVd but whatever i do I can not hear anything .....any suggestion?
