    mp4 to avi troubles

    Hey guys,

A couple months ago you suggested to use YAMB to convert a mp4 video to avi. Well I"m trying that extraction to AVI thing again and it makes a .avi file but I can't open it. It just locks up whatever program it's using to try to play it (in this case WMP classic). Is there something I could be doing wrong? Audio was converted to .aac fine though.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Basically I wanted to convert it to avi because it's easier for me to use my dvd-lab pro software on to make it DVD player compatible. MP4 none of my programs (besides quicktime) recognize it

it's likely AVC content. in which case extract video as raw h264 and mux to avi with AVC2AVI. exract audio as raw aac and mux together with avi-mux GUI

Waste of time though really. Better to just leave it as is and convert directly to MPEG-2/AC3. To convet AVC/aac in an avi container you would either need to convert via dshow (in which case mp4 should work just as well) or you won't get audio due to the lack of an ACM aac decoder.
