    Booktype help.

I am using ImgBurn to try and change the booktype of my DVD+RW to DVD-ROM. It tells me my drive is a NEC but none of the options in the scroll down box for changing booktype worked. So I tryed some of the other ones. These are the ones that worked...
    BenQ
    LiteOn
    Ricoh
    Nu Tech

But they all came up and said failed when I clicked on change to change it to a DVD-ROM.

All help very much appreciated as I've had real trouble trying to get this to work.

    Thanks.

well that's about as unreadable a jpeg as I have ever tried to blow up

is that a laptop nec 6550? firmware?

nec's require hacked firmware for bitsetting dvd+r to rom

a simple question, what's the firmware and drive number?

pretty sure I got it but anyways I don't reccomend flashing those drives

It it highly recommended to use a slimline to IDE adapter and a desktop PC for this procedure instead of leaving the drive in your notebook. You might be unable to complete this procedure if the drive is still installed in your laptop. The drive has to be attached to the secondary IDE channel, you will probably get an error message on the primary channel.
Boot into plain DOS. A command prompt from within Windows does NOT work.

Nothing but the NEC tab will / is working.

Just because it shows a 'Current Setting' ok doesn't mean the bitsetting commands will work.

In the instances where 'Current Setting' is displayed properly, it's probably just displaying the current booktype of the media - which of course all drives support doing as it's a generic command that's part of the MMC specs.

                that's a 6650

looks like a dell firmware for that laptop

liggy wrote bitsetting firmware for the drives

liggy's 162 might work but I would not pursue this matter

                102C is your firmware

Ignoring bitsetting support, would the 103D from Dell not work?

If it did, perhaps then you could also try liggy's 103D.

This way you're getting update firmware and possibly bitsetting too.

these are advanced techniques, even had a beta tester ask me once how to do this

at the bottom left of the page I linked to are links to glossary and faq's, please read before preceding
