The latest version of the divx codec was released 2 days ago, and boasts multithreading support. see here

so i've gone and done some testing with my Ahtlon64 3800+
the source:
A HDTV (native mpeg-2) clip from my capture of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', 1:45 long.
mpeg-2 PS
1440x1088 @ 25fps progressive
256kbps stereo ac3
166mb total file size, @ 12.65mbps video bitrate
using virtualdubmod & avisynth, resizing to 1280x720, lanczos3
there is no option i could see to disable multithreading, so i set virtualdubmod's affinity in the task manager to a single core, so (obviously) only 1 core will be used.
Divx Pro 6.1 Settings:
bitrate 1900kbps, 'High Definition profile', 'insane quality mode', Adaptive Mutliple Consecutive, max keyframe interval - 250 frames, keyframe threshold 50%, qpel & gmc disabled, H263 quantization (i've only included the second pass. the first pass gave very similar results)
both cores were constantly at 100% while multi-threading was enabled. divx is now faster than xvid, but for some reason i still prefer xvid

Second pass: Multi-threading Disabled - ~4-5fps, but fluctuated greatly. total time: 10:18 (snore)
Multi-threading Enabled - ~7-8fps. total time: 5:31 (woohoo!)
