How do I know if my Taiyo Yuden TYG02 is fake media?

I've been lurking and trying to educate myself, but eventually you make a move, because reading gets dull without trying some burns yourself. Until now I've been burning on media pretty randomly, and many of my backups are now failing, so now I'm trying to do it right. So I bought some TY's at auction. (Alright, you don't have to take me to task for that, for I understand the error of my mistake.) I think they are fakes. Can someone tell me?

The packaging doesn't seem right, 50 pack, black base, standard cakebox with two white spacers and one clear pseudodisk on top, wrapped in clear plastic. The hub of each disk has a white five pointed star and etched into the hub in tiny letters is IFPI FW32 and IFPI FW34. The disks are 8x DVD-R with a media code of TYG02 according to DVD Decrypter.

So do I burn, or try to get my money back? If I burn, can someone direct me to a guide on how to scan the disk for quality afterward?

Thanks. And by the way, to the authors of DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, RipIt4Me, and FixVTS, you are simply amazing.

The only codes printed on the disks, or for that matter anywhere on the package are the white star and the etched tiny letters IFPI FW32 and IFPI FW34.

the batch number on genuine ty media
        my tygo2's start with GGxxxxxx

yours are fake? but maybe not

Okay, after careful study under super bright light I was able to determine that something was there, but not what it read, so I scanned and photoshopped it until it revealed the code 1122T and incidentally, though probably unimportantly, 180 degrees away from that DVD-R.

So I guess that means I've been had? How do I scan the disks for quality? I haven't shelled out the cash for Nero, since the free programs are so good.

Update: I figured out that Nero CD-DVD Speed is free.

          My Burner: SONY DVDRW_DW-D22A_BFS1
I'm thinking that the errors at the end of this scan would not have occured if I had legitimate TY media. Am I right?

Crap!! I have just litterarely looked with DVD Identify what make
my stock is. Then I bumped into this thread by accident or coincidence?

My stock of TYG02 discs has 1106T on it.
They also failed in my copytower but not on a PC.

The distrubuter of these disks is Aone. They are fully
inkjet printable surface DVD's. does it mean mine are also fake?
            Because I have about a 1000 of these f*ckers

Taiyo Yuden rated speed & format/ media ID coding / inner hub reading

              4x dvd-r = TYG01 / GD00xxxx
              8x dvd-r = TYG02 / GG00xxxx
              16x dvd-r = TYG03 / GH00xxxx

              4x dvd+r = YUDEN000T01 / i don't know cuz i don't have any
              8x dvd+r = YUDEN000T02 / TG00xxxx
              16x dvd+r = YUDEN000T03 / TH00xxxx

anything else than these codes means there FAKE,CRAP media...

Those Bloody B*strds! This is probably why my tower and recorders are erroring then.
Oh well, My boss's money, not mine heheh..
                Still crap though.

Thanx for pointing this out Chewy and daman

So then I have a question for ya, how are they able
to get a TYG02 tag onto the disk then? Did they steal it?

the mid code(tag) can be legally liscensed, supposedly is linked to the dye tho. For example verbatim is owned by MCC, mcc makes the dye and several
other companies use it to make verbatims, some companies use the
the mid and dye and brand their disks whatever

According to my boss, the company that sold it to him
said they were ryteks. This whole thing is fishy already.
It has 'Aone' printed on the cover of the not-even-a-spindel.
Lots of japanese text at the bottom of that which I cannot read

                          I only buy my TY's from supermediastore.com or rima.com and newegg.com,
always genuine Taiyo Yudens from those stores.

the only safe place to buy if you ask me...

No way, I though mine were genuine TYG02's, I stumbled accross the discs I am using one day when I ran out, and was in a local store of mine called 'QD'
They are one of those huge department stores that sell everything cheap, I noticed they soldFull Face White Printable DVD-R's in packs of 25 and laughed to my missus they would do and were probably some dodgy make/dye I had never heard of, but bought some for the crack, buy two get one free(75 discs for £20)

When I put them in my burner it said they were TYG02's, and every one burn't without a hickup, so everytime I get stuck I buy some, been using them quiet a lot.

Now I know they must be fake, but everytime I buy them they are exactly the same, no bad burns ever ??

The name on the top of the disc is 'KG MEDIA' Can't find anything about this company
Dvd Info say's they are TYG02's

Underneath the discs they just have 0808550 and 22710 inside the die
And round the hub they are printed A1J21-R1-06:37

The thing is they sell them all the time

Very Dodgy I thought that the fake part was only the packaging, and if they said they were TYG02's in DVDD etc they were real as the couldn't fake the media code
