    mpeg2 soft playback problem

    Hi,

I ran into some problems playing an mpg on an svcd.
    winmplayer crashes
    winamp (don't ask) crashes
powerdvd plays it waaay too fast. (sound skips, frames get blocky and then it looks like it skips about 100 frames/sec)
BlazeDVD crashes back to desktop on even starting it up. (xp pro, compat mode = no help)

I tried loading it as disk, from the mpeg folder on the disk as a file.
Copied to hdd and loaded as a file.
    Same probs.

    Installed "some" mpeg2 codec, nothing.

GSpot says "huh? wtf is this?"

Opened the file in ulead vstudio.., plays perfectly.
    Installed winDvD 5, plays perfectly.

    Anyone?
I think that bloody harry potter has cast a spell on my machine..

    Weird huh?

Just thought i'd toss it in here in case someone ran into the same problem.

    Sharky

Did VStudio run it before you installed "some" mpeg2 codec?

WinDVD as opposed to Windows Media Player uses additional codecs as used by most other applications.
WMP uses Microsoft's built in DirectShow codecs, hence Win DVD and PowerDVD are recommended over WMP for testing work.

Does GSpot really say "huh? wtf is this?"
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

      I just uninstalled "Stinky's mpeg2 codec" lol
      VStudio plays it fine.

I always use powerdvd and never had any problems, but i got a few movies in that had the speeding up problem so i tossed them thinking they were bad copies.
Now the nth one had it so i went looking on my box.
Still wondering what to install/.dll(s) to copy and register to have my good ole PDvD handle it though..

      lol no!
It just doesn't have a clue what it is.., it "thinks" it's mpeg2.., uhm.., yeah..
latest version gspot btw, an earlier version crashed on loading the file.

Have you tried VirtualDubMod or NanDub?
I don't hold out much hope though if GSpot couldn't suss them though.
Not sure if "Stinky's mpeg2 codec" was helping or hindering! lol
