How to learn what is new/changed in firmware updates?

I purchased a Lite-On iHBS212 manufactured in August 2010 with firmware 5L03. Lite-On website has no firmware updates but available here at FirmwareHQ is 5L07.

Where can I find detailed information about what changes were made?

In preparation I have backed up 5L03 with LtnFW. My goal is fast but accurate reads with both DVD and Blu-Ray. Stock it reads Blu-Ray at 8x, which is much faster than my LGBH10LS30. I admit I'm a little nervous about flashing, but I'm very good about following instructions and hopefully with my firmware backup I won't ruin a new drive.
    All help is appreciated!

You can't really, LiteOn are rubbish a publishing them.

LiteOn made a tool called 'SmartPack' which people are meant to use for getting firmware updates. I guess it's semi-automated and so their website has probably fallen behind a little.

The new LiteOn firmware files on Firmware HQ are the *exact* ones that SmartPack downloads.

Don't worry about flashing, I've done my iHBS112 two or three times already

Hey Nic, I just installed the latest smartpack on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine. Did you use Smartpack to find firmware 5L07? Because the only firmware available at Lite-On is 5L03. FirmwareHQ shows 5L07. That's why I'm curious what changes have been made between 5L03 and 5L07.
