    New hardware..not working?

i ordered a firewire\usb2.0 card for my pc. it came today and this is exactly what i did...

shut down the computer, pulled the power cord. took the covers off, unscrewed the block off plate in the back, placed the card in gently but firmly and installed it, all the contacts line up and are completley seated. left the covers off to make sure that i had everything correct before i put it together, so i plugged in the power cord, and started it up.

now it said that my pc would recognize it automatically...if it did i dont know it. so i inserted the disk that came with the card..i here it spinning and running but nothing comes up on the screen (like a setup screen..nothing) so i do a little reading and it says go to device manager to see if it shows up, its the 1394 i believe, it says if its there, right click and check properties.. if nothing comes up its not using any memory and something is wrong...so i pull up the properties and all it says is the name (the 1399 at the top) with a blank grey windown below the name...

so what do i do now? im very eager to get this going...

if you see it in the device manager, without the nasty exclamation point marker, it should work just fine. drivers/installation cd's are not generally needed, its ready for use

sounds like an internal memory address problem, try another slot
windows should have seen new hardware, installed it or asked for drivers
some cards in some computers are awfully picky, stay out of the top slot usually

Double click on the item and select update driver.

Insert the cdrom on the drive and let windows search the right driver.

            This should be all.

              ok updating driver...yaddi yaddi yadda....

goes through all of that and says that the file sdcv05.sys is needed, type in the path of the file and select ok..

well its not "finding" it on the disk automatically, so i searched on the dvd for a file named that, and then for anything that has those letters in it and im coming up empty handed...

Should be windows to search the file, not you.

Do you see anywhere an option to let windows do the search instead to manually specify a path?

Try also to search on the disc with file explorer. Do there is a setup file on the CD-rom?

if you can't get the cd to work you can go to their website and d/l the drivers
sometimes windows update will d/l and install the drivers

ok well i got something figured out, that file it needs is on my software cd for my camera, not the new hardware...and the item in the device manager that had the exclaimation marker was new image device, not the card...so i put the cd rom i got with my camera in and boom, there was the file, ok i go to install and the computer crashes...grey screen with tons of scribbly lines, so i restart, try to do it again and same thing happens, so i just restart AGAIN and this popped up..

File or directory \WINNT\QTFord.for is corrupt or unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility...

are these the latest drivers you are trying to install? from their website?

try booting into safe mode (press f8 before you see the windows logo during startup) & uninstalling the problematic driver through the device manager

and if that don't work, pull the card, let windows boot without it once or twice and try a different slot

alright, damn i must of restarted this thing 20 times...haha what a pain.

so the new hardware (i guess) is fine, properties show it all working, drivers are installed, and recognized, but what its showing on the device manager was the yellow exclaimation, so i started in safe mode, removed the driver and uninstalled all my camera software, then reinstalled it. it all worked and loaded properly but when i open the program for my camera (samsung DVC Media 5.1, which is the latest software\driver for my camera to my knowledge) the computer starts to open the software and then says the device cannot be found and to check the connection...
