the digital camcorder is a samsung scd103, the card's box just says "Controller Card", combo PCI host card equipped with two IEEE1394 ports and four usb2.0 ports

may sound like a stupid question, but did you turn the camera on (while connected to your usb port) & then run the program?

oh yea, on, off, i basically try everything i can think of before asking here, you guys are spending a lot of time trying to help me out, and i really do appreciate it, but i do try, with my limited computer knowledge, everything i think could have an effect on this not working.

on the backside of this card (opposite to the part that is seated with the contacts) there is an "outlet", looks like a usb 2.0 slot...i dont need to hook that up to anything do i? the directions just said put the card in the slot and screw it down..

have you tried testing the usb ports on the back of the card with other devices? any other device?

no, i havent...i dont think i have any other things to connect, my digital camera is at my girls house, and i think thats the only other thing. i dont suppose there is any way of testing it without another device to hook up..

as an example, just check on the card in device manager

it says both that and the video imaging devices are working properly, but when i open the software for my camera, dvc media 5.1 the prompt comes up telling me device not found, check connection with computer and device.

when you connect the camera to the usb port, does windows notify you that it detects the camera? try opening the camera like a regular USB device (open up 'my computer' click the new drive), see what's in there...

check the instruction manual and see if your camera actually supports sending video through USB. on many cameras, the usb is used only for stills, while firewire is needed for video

I'm not sure if it's pertinent, but my brother have an USB webcam that require the installation of drivers before to plug the usb connector. I know that is strange, but it's clearly specified on user manual, and my brother (that usually don't read manuals) plugged the connector to computer without installing drivers and after wasn't able at all to install drivers. And the cam don't function.

After a system restore he installed drivers first and after plugged the webcam, and this time all go well.

I'm not sure that this can be pertinent with the problem of mx_racer32, but maybe he can do a try

then is possible your usb port is not functioning. have you applied SP1 or SP2 updates to xp? if not,

download & install Service Pack 2 for windows xp

                            get it at http://www.microsoft.com
