System won't recognise there is a DVD/CD in drive?!!

Sorry-also posted in media secton (!!)-PLease any experts can you advise?

Hello! When I put ANY media in my Pioneer DVR-110 I used to get the windows 'box' saying 'do you want to play this cd/burn, etc...' this now does not appear at all.

So say, for example I put a CD in that I'd just copied & wanted to play it to check it (or any media for that matter!) I don't get the 'box' appearing to allow me to do this.

However-if i go in to 'my computer' & click on 'dvd drive d' it SHOWS the tracks are there!!

Same with my many DVD programmes such as DVD Shrink, imageburn, cdxp, etc...so i can copy, etc but find this a bit strange! Now I don't as a rule use the computer to play movies/cd's (just burn them!) but wondered if you knowledgable folks new of a solution or a setting i could change??! It produced the 'window' up until yesterday & nothings changed on the system since then. Should I try 'system restore' & go back to yesterday?? I'm on XP by the way....any answers in baby language as I'm a newbie!

    Thanks!

    Kind regards,

    Chris

I have closed your thread in Blank Media & Burning - please read forum rule 11.

You have disabled the auto-action. A system restore will probably fix it easily.

go into 'my computer', right-click your dvd/cd drive, click 'properties'. click the 'autoplay' tab. select from the drop-down box a disc type, and click 'prompt me each time to choose an action' for each of them.

I think what you are talking about is called autoinsert notification.
Some program has done you a favor by turning the damn thing off.
Why? It's one of the best ways to hose your computer, I can't stress
this enough. When I insert a disk in an optical drive, I dont want auto anything, It's my computer and I will run the show, not windows or any other program. I can think of 3 or 4 different things I might want to do when
I put a movie in, or an audio cd, or a program cd/dvd, I know how to do them
and don't need window's help, besides I might want to change my mind.

          Thanks guys.....

Sorry Les re rule 11 (!)!

OK...tried doing the system restore & the 'properties' bit-still can't get the thing to bring up the windows 'box'. Guess it does not matter as I've tried all media types (CD audio, blank dvd+r, recorded dvd+r) with all my programmes & it shows the disk is where it should be....just occaisionally DVD SHRINK or similar programmes say that 'there is no disk inserted' & if I try one more time & get the same message I re-boot & it seems ok again.

It's just odd that the windows 'box' should suddenly just stop appearing & now won't appear??! A mystery....it was just a 'comfort' thing to a newbie like me that the drive was working ok as a week ago I had to take the drive back as it would not recognise ANY media when inserted??

One last point....why does the DVD drive sometimes say there is no disk in when there is???!

          Thanks!

          Chris

They take a while to spin up and recognize the disk, windoz gets
real confused if you don't wait for the light to quit blinking,
can even lock up the computer.

            try anony's suggestion

D drive won't recognise the disc

This happens to my laptop all the time, & it is brand new. It seems to happen when the disc is really cheap, like the ones from Bali, or if your trying to burn and it won't recognize the blank disc, it's usually because you need a 8x speed disc, (a double layer disc) you can get them at Woollies for $20. for 5 discs. EXPENSIVE! - SALINA123

D drive won't recognise the disc

TRAVELMAN- IT WON'T RECOGNIZE THE DISC USUALLY WHEN IT IS A SUPER SUPER CHEAP DISC,......LIKE THE MOVIES YOU BUY FROM BALI.

I think your DVD drive may have some problem in dvd lens. I have got same problem and then I changed my DVD player.
