DVD ISOs on my home network

My goal: All my DVDs stored as ISOs on a single networked storage device (PC or NAS) and a PC or Media Extender (i.e. XBOX 360) at each TV in the house. One click access to the movie as through Windows Media Center (so no mounting of the drives or this is automated somehow).

First hurdle: getting WMP 10 to play the ISO directly. Other post says it can be done (http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...dia+player+iso) but I've had absolutely no luck.

I've ripped the ISOs with much success using DVD shrink and they play fine once I mount the ISo as a drive.

Has anyone tried to do something similar?

why use wmp? it sucks!

if you're bent on using iso's, get VLC media player, it can play them without a hitch

if you're bent on using wmp, type the error message you see when you attempt to open an iso with it

Another vote for VLC. I use it to play ISO's from my external drives on my wireless network to my laptop.

I used to play dvd's on computer with vlc and record on vcr(uck)!
Does iso's!

Expensive? Maybe - but getting a lot cheaper:

And with two toddlers that have a knack for finding and destroying everything - I feel better knowing I've got the ISOs on disk.

I love VLC too - but the Windows MCE interface (and the XBOX 360) is very family friendly.

You could always just archive everything to dvd-5 and change
the smaller iso library from time to time.
