    JVC MG40 & Firewire

    Hi,

I have looked and looked to no end and I can't find out if the JVC MG40 will work with firewire. When I try to use capture in Pinnacle Studio 10, with the camcorder hooked up via USB; I get this error message saying there is a Capture initialization error.
If it will work with firewire, I'll go and get the card and cable.

    Thanks for your help.

Problem is, is that there is no firewire port on the camcorder, just a usb port, so this was a waste of time to post. I apologize for that. I admit that I know nothing about firewire.

That's easily and fairly economically remedied, what's your computer?

ok i just checked your camera, its a very good one (hard disk drive) NO CAPTURING IS NEEDED

just hook up the usb to the PC, turn it on, wait a few seconds. double-click 'my computer', you'll see a new drive, probably E:. take a look inside there, you *should* find mpeg-2 files. copy & paste to your hard drive. that's your video, it should already be dvd compliant.

convenient camera, no more capturing, just copy+paste!

ps which version of windows? if XP, make sure you have SP2 (service pack 2) installed

firewire faster than USB2(almost all cases) and older computers w/o usb2
            really lame

Chewy: I should have said there is no firewire port on the camcorder. I can get a card and cable for my computer.

Anonymez: I did that last night, and the screen on the camcorder only says: "USB Mass Storage" and that's as far as it goes. There is test video stuff on there that I did just to learn, before I took video I wanted to keep.

Thanks guys for your help here I do appreciate it

doesn't the PC detect the usb device? try it again, use the PC to access the camera

I have done everything you guys have mentioned. The new drive is empty. there is nothing to cut and paste, nothing period. Yet I can see the stuff on the camera. This is beyond funny.

any software come with it? read the manual?

the fact the sub device is deteced means it works. its likely a software/setting issue

I have all of the manuals, such as they are right here on the desk and I have been reading them. I'll look further into this tonight, I have to get ready for work now. But let me finish by saying this also, I notice that while on the cameras sceen it says USB Mass Storage, you can't do anything else. Nothing. I'll be checking my email from work. If you have any websites that may help I'd appreciate that. Thanks for following my issue, and I'll put up more tonight after I mess with the software and redo the settings.
