Paging file size question

Hey Guys,
Newbie to the forum. Got a question about paging file size.
I have been using DVDshrink for a while, but just recently started getting error messages "Out of Memory-paging file too small"
I went into systems and incresed the paging file size and it seems to work alright now.
Question is: Will I need to constantly increase file size? or is there an alternative?
(eventually I will run out of space!) Must be a way to clean or empty this file !
Kind of a novice, so any help is appreciated !

What system specs are you running? Is it possible that you have too many things running in the background, chewing up memory and paging file space?

Probably better to buy additional RAM - 512Mb is seen as a sweet spot.

And make Paging File size = 2 RAM at minimum.

I always set min and max to 3x my installed RAM. Both my machine at work and home have 1 gig (2 pieces of 512). Now I'm not sure of the type of ram my work machine has, as it is a (cough)Dell(cough), but my home machine has PC3200. By setting the min and max to the same size you reduce the risk of fragmenting the paging file that could slow down ones machine.

i used to use 1.5x, then 3x that amount, but stopped after i got too much ram

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got 256mb of ram, will upgrade to 512, and set the paging file size at 1024.

chewy will say you should not set a maximum but set the minimum at 2xRAM. Buggered if I know why.

Long ago and far away, I stumbled into a Microsoft newsgroup on Win 98
performance with my win95 mentality. The gods(msmvp's) of windows made mincemeat of chewy, I learned a lot there after my wounds healed.
Just set the max to 4096(highest value), for a gig or 2 of ram.
Otherwise trust windows to change it on it's own if needed. If windows needs
more virtual memory, don't say no to it.

anony should have a dedicated 4 gig partition on non system drive and
leave a small 200 meg swap file on system drive.

probably only once. when i first got the x2 i was playing half-life 2 while shrinking

other than that, photoshop could easily utilize it when opening multiple hi-res images (especially images with multiple layers). but my images don't go above 6mp, so chances are extremely slim
