We resently reinstalled XP and wiped out the harddrive on that computer because of a virus. So is defragging still necessary?
so I will assume you're clean, now what's wrong, can't be not enough ram
if you've optimized the OS, everything should work, just slowly.
    Leaves drivers or hardware failure?

SP2, firewall equiped. We had Norton, it treated us like dirt, so we deleted it and I'm looking into new protection programs. I often run scans with numerous freeware, provided mostly from www.castlecops.com and it seems to be keeping alright so far. I know I need to put something on there though.

        Any recommendations?

I've heard panda is very good, and our broadband tech recommended AVG antivirus from www.grisoft.com

        Haven't heard of that one.

And yes you're right, with everything optimized it runs just fine... just very slowly 4 hours to create the ISO file. I'm assuming the burning won't take that long.

Tell me though, with the gig of ram, once it's installed, will that reduce the 4 hours, to something more appropriate?

Are you using DA and AEC and full movie? @ compression below 70%?

I did almost 100 movies with shrink 2.3, reauthor, original mr bass style
and xp and amd1800-2400's and 256 megs of ram on most and shrink never took over an hour. Even on the original LOR.

with the gig of ram, once it's installed, will that reduce the 4 hours, to something more appropriate?
at least twice as fast(with only 512 total, no gain past there)

DA? AEC is set to default, and it's like 65% compression

Turn off AEC all together? not even default sharp? What is DA? how do I turn it off? and it's a tv series, that's why it's so compressed.

turn them off and reauthor to get compression above 70-80% for long movies and 100% for short ones, watch it fly.

reauthor and just use 2 episodes(1 1/2hr) and see what happens

Gotcha, good deal. Thanks. Well hopefully I'll be alright when that RAM comes.

Just for a lark try the fast way before you add the ram.
