My roomate and I were having some audio distortion problems after connecting a computer to the TV. Below I describe the whole thing. I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice to help us out?
My roomate and I had an old 500 Mhz Dell Optiplex computer sitting around and decided to put it to some use. Our goal was to hook it to the big tv in the living room and put a wireless ethernet card into it so we could copy different movies and such from the computers in the bedrooms to the computer in the living room easily so we could watch them on the big screen. The sound would be connected through the receiver we have in the living room. We We purchased a GeForce4 MX4000 128MB DDR PCI card with Svideo out. After putting it, we also put the Linksys Wireless card in.
We got it all setup and everything worked perfectly except for one thing. When we play a lot of movies through it, the sound is distorted. We loaded on the proper codecs and everything, trying the Kazaa Codec pack and then ffdshow. The video will play fine, but the audio is distorted. This only happens for videos however and happens on pretty much most of them. Any audio files play perfectly fine.
The computer has onboard audio and 256mb of memory. I was thinking the onboard audio was maybe using up all of the memory, so later today I will be trying a Soundblaster Live audio card to see if that helps at all. We tried to play movies on the computer before hooking it up like this and they play perfectly fine.
Anyone have any ideas to help us out? We really want to be able to pull this off and have no idea what to do or try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
