Sony DCR-TRV10 Camera - Cam -> PC Software

I just inherited a Sony DCR-TRV10 Camcorder. Unfortunately, no instructions on how to transfer files from cam -> computer. any ideas? I already have a non-sony, but with firewire 1394 card. i have connected it, but then what? do i need software or something.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi <akuma>,

If your Sony DCR-TRV10 Camcorder has a firewire 1394 output connector, you connect it directly to your PC since your PC already has the firewire card. Then downlload and run the WinDV to capture to your PC

Small Windows utility for DV FireWire digital video input/output.

as mentioned above, use the free tool 'windv' to capture to your hard disk. follow the guide here http://www.doom9.org/dv/guide_paragraph0.html

for editing & burning to dvd, see here http://www.doom9.org/dv/guide.html

I'm having a different but similar problem. The software to record is not the problem. I've even dled that windv but my problem persists.

The thing is that it won't show my camcorder in the video source selection. It only shows my recently installed webcam.

So my problem is that i need to get my computer to recognize the camcorder. It is currently connected with that firewire 1394 cable

almost forgot. The webcam is currently disconnected so the only thing connecting to the computer is the camcorder (same as mentioned above).

              win xp home
              version 2002
              service pack 2

              Hewlett-Packard Pavilion
              Intel Pentium 4 2.53 ghz
2.52ghz 1 gig ram (upgraded from half that)
and if it matters, radeon 9600 pro
This is my first and only computer with IEEE 1394 firewire holes.

I heard that service pack 2 gave issues to some pc firewires, so i dled a 'fix' from the microsoft website but it still doesn't work after that fix.

I have vegas 6.0 as a video editing tool.

By the way, i don't know who the child mentioned in your signature is, but i'm really sorry about the loss.
