Fixed jerky and stopping movie on a burned disk.

I had the same problem .

after burning a video it was jerky and started to freeze up during playback.

I searched for the answers and here are two things I learned today.

firmware, and burn speed make a difference.

Firmware sounded to me like some sexually toy.

Just like when a teacher in class talks to fast you only can remember a certain amount of info.... the same goes for burning information onto a disk.

I burned a movie called Into the blue, great movie.

initially I let everything take its course. One,two ...disks wasted....

I changed the setting to make the dvd burn at a speed of 4x even though my burner can do 16x.

also I down loaded the latest software for my dvd drive. using www.drvupdate.com

by the way my older dvd player connected to the TV won't play the burned disk. but it works on my portable curtis dvd player.

A DVD +R disk is much different than a DVD -R disk .....go figure.

Alas it worked. I no longer felt like a dummy.

PS. At the age of 37 1/2 yrs I have experience computers from nothing to where they are today.
My very first computer came with only 1K memory.....expanded to 16K. Yeah that's 'K' not meg, gig, tetra gig or anything else that boggles the mind.

It is an immense task to try and stay current to the latest technology.

I am continually amazed at the genius that some of today's youth has in learning new technology like burning ripping and out right beating the system.

If you don't give up and try to persevere through all odds you can succeed.

Good luck.... to you and all those trying to beat the system...

        Quote me;

If you don't question authority then you are a slave to their wishes and ways thereby subjecting yourself to living a life of never knowing true freedom.

Oh the thoughts one gets by smoking something natural other than tobacco.

I don't think that CPU usage is an issue here. Playing ordinary DVDs it sits at around 20-25%, video files are around 30-60% depending on codec and resolution. And the jerkiness is still there.

              paul,
there's a quick test, let's keep the northbridge chipset cool, try opening the case and pointing a small fan into it. I've got a via 266 in a friends with
vid problems when that northbridge chipset overheats. There should be a heatsink between the agp and the cpu.

I don't have an extra fan I could use. I'll have to see what I can do.

With -25 degrees celsius outside, that's not going to be a long lasting solution

I am just trying to see if the northbridge chipset is overheating

Um you bought a new video card on recommendation of these forums? Ouch. There was really no indication your video card was about to fail.

How do games and such run? Crashes etc? Slow?

Do you have a heat monitor for the CPU check it in the bios. IF ANYTHING your cpu is most likely cause of this problem but don't go buying a new CPU yet!
                        .

I very much doubt it is the power supply either, but if you think it maybe, unplug everything in the system that is not needed.
