I am trying to download the latest version of Java and I CANNOT dl it! I have windows XP and it keeps telling me to install Direct X and when I do this it still will not work and I keep getting the same errors. Anyone know what is wrong? I have read some of the "help" info in the Java site, but it is very hard to understand. Any help would be much appreciated! THANKS!

When I click on the bar to install Direct X this is the error message I get:
This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is and valid Windows Installer product.Comment

Sorry it is not Direct X, it is Active X. And I also get this error message after the mentioned one:
Windows Xp SP2 users: if you encounter an error, look at the top of this page for a yellow bar that reade "This site might rewuire the following Active X control: J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6' from Sun Microsystems Inc. Click here to install... "Click the yellow bar and choose "Install Active X Control... to allow installation to proceed.
We encountered and issue while trying to automatically install Java software onto your machine. As a result, Java software was not istalled properly.
Any ideas, as what to do????Comment

IE is blocking it. just download the "JRE 5.0 Update 6" from this page http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp, download the OFFLINE installer and install manuallyComment

I wonder has the machine been fully updated with all essential and critical
MS updates? SP2? The yellow bar, answer yes to the guys in white hats,
no to the ones in black hats.
I keep running into people who don't believe in service packs or clean installs.Comment

I ran into funwebproducts "long ago and far away", on a hunch I looked at what web browser you were using and say it, but it had been 2-3 years
since I had read about it. Lucky hunchs are the "FORCE"! I was afraid you'd
get mad about the free smileys, but you have to call it as you see them and let the cards fall where they may.Comment
