    Disc scan/fix errors problem

    hi,

when i run disc scan/fix errors i get a weird error message, it disappears before i can copy it down but it says cannot access C Files/drive and then skips the scan. this failed procedure is now a part of the boot up procedure. i tried a system restore on a few different dates but even restore was unable to restore, no changesa made. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

yep, no virus found! used norton 2006 and counterspy, as well as spydoctor.

Well that's both ends of the spectrum but leaves a lot of trojans in the middle.
Did you scan from safemode, if you didn't, then don't expect to find them!

Come to think of it, if it's keeping you from scanning your C drive at bootup
there's not much you can do but a clean install of the OS.

try this, if it finds anything critical besides cookies, then you maybe hosed
        already.

Well when you think about it, windoze doesn't need any virus or trojan to
get corrupt, given enough time it's perfectly capable of doing it on it's own.
Norton's could even be locking it out.

              C:\program files\pgcedit\bin\pskill.exe

              i'm gonna try re-installing norton.

                  try hijackthis 1.99

I've always liked this tool... it will show what processes and regkeys are running on your pc. and it gives you the option to fix some items after it performs it's scan.
p.s. save the log file it will help to figure out how to undo any mistakes.
The original HijackThis, a general homepage hijackers detector and remover. Initially based on the article Hijacked!, but expanded with almost a dozen other checks against hijacker tricks. It does not...

thanks a bunch guys, will do. i'm still having no success running a error check scan, error says unable to scan "read only" files. i hope that my driver hasn't gone screwy. i'm really careful with it. never the less i'll try that majorgeeks link.
i feel too novice to reinstall my OS. is it an advanced procedure? will i loose all data/software?

using the fix you could loose software becasue it will stop running a service or delete a reg key. i would suggest that if you're unsure about any thing listed, do a google search or post the log file created by hijackthis.

i understand, it took me 5 years to learn how to mess with the registry properly. and i'm still considered a novice.

                              vash & eam:
Posting a hijack log is a good idea, it's an indepth diagnostic tool which in the right
hands can be used to determine the fixability of a computer. If you are hosed bad enough,
reload. I have spent hours trying to fix a few minutes worth of carelessness by clients.
And still had to reload. It took me years of playying in the registry to learn it's better to just
leave it alone. Learn to not mess it up.

And now that stealth technology has arrived, regedit isn't the tool it used to be.
