DVD Drive will not read Longest Yard

High, this is a great forum I have learned a great deal by searching your posts. I have had no trouble backing up my DVDs following your instructions. If my drive could read the "Longest Yard" I know I could back it up.
The Problem: Insert DVD in drive, read light comes on, hard drive light comes on, read light on DVD drive starts to slowly blink, hard drive light on constant. Computer locks up and requires reboot. I know the disk is ARCCOS protected, have not had a problem reading other such disks. Cleaned disk, got replacement disk, no help. I have attached my Nero info file. Thanks for any help, it must be something really simple but it's driving me crazy!

If this is the only DVD this is happening with, it seems you have another bad pressing.

If not, try to clean your drive. There are cheap drive cleaning kits around. In fact, a good friend of mine reckons that Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10 ;>}

Thanks Blutach, I'll do that, haven't ever cleaned the drive. What's confusing to me is that the disc plays well on a DVD player, is it still possible it could be a bad pressing?

Yes it definitely is.

You could try to flash your firmware. Latest ver is 2.1g. You have:

Drive : SONY DVD RW DRU-530A
Type : DVD±R/RW Recorder
Firmware Version : 2.0a

Still no luck

Thanks for all the advice - I got a third copy of Longest Yard from another source, cleaned the drive using Maxell CD-345 lens cleaner (3 times), updated the firmware to version 21g. Same symptoms, I have attached the revised Nero info file. Must be something else, interesting problem. All other discs work perfectly.

Can you take your latest copy to another PC and see if it reads there?

Problem Solved

Just to close the loop, I updated the firmware on the dvd drive and it read the disk. The firm ware I downloaded from this site did not work. There is a zip file on the Sony site that has some other files included. Although both updates were successful, only the firmware from the Sony site fixed the drive so it could read the disk. Thanks for the help.
