I also have the LG-4167, and I absolutely love it ! I haven't had a problem with it, and it has run pretty steadily since I received it.

I went into the shop looking for an LG 4167 ( after reading this thread ) and they only had a 4165. Is this still a good one ?. I think it didnt have RAM Media and the 4167 did. So my next question is ; What exactly is RAM Media and how do I know if Im going to need it ?

The DVD drive came this morning and it looks excellent in black. It is a December 2005 model with DL12 firmware.

Has the OEM version got a 2x riplock on it? It doesn't seem to rip faster than 2.3x in DVDD.

they are slow rippers, that's what makes them the best readers
take a crappy burned dusk and do a transfer test with it in the LG

The speed went up to 4.7x by the end. I don't have crappy disks. My old 4040 did a max 8x. If I need speed, my Pioneer 109 will do 12x.

I was hoping to do 5x ram speed but forgot that most of my RAM discs are 2x. I do have some 3x.

I have Ritek discs that are three years old that still play and read 100%. I bought decent discs from day one.

my R03's have held up well, try one of those older disks in a transfer test
with the lg compared to the pioneer, did you have any G05's?

another good example of a crappy disk is a bad/cheap pressing like what we saw with cinderella man

I am really glad that I got the 4167 now. It looks excellent. I ahve just done my first burn and it went fine. I decided to upgrade to DL13 firmware before I started burning. As I only burn region 2 DVD's I used the manufacturer version of the firmware. I have never really trusted hacked region free fimware 100%.

If anyone looks at the SVP link above from me. Also, both the black and beige are now a Liteon drive. Apparantly, several people have had continous bad burns with them.

I like how my 4163B bitsets and burns the yuden T02's at 8x. Even my tests at 16x with tyg03's were awfully good, especially considering it does it in just
                            5 min and 19 seconds
